Work & Development
Hawk began his filmmaking with an independent cinema verité project, Old School Roadster, which aired on Connecticut television. He later wrote, produced, and directed his first scripted short film, Alpha to Omega: Part 4, establishing a foundation for continued work in narrative and experimental cinema.
Since then, his projects have included narrative fiction, animation, documentaries, music videos, time-lapse films, and industrial productions. He continues to develop new work, including two upcoming animation films currently in production.

Background
James W. Hawk was born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, and raised in East Cleveland, Ohio. He studied architecture at Ohio University and completed his education in mechanical engineering at Cleveland State University. He is a military veteran, an experience that continues to inform the discipline and perspective underlying his creative work.
His professional career in industrial sales and marketing led to relocations across the United States, broadening the range of environments and experiences reflected in his films and writing. He also worked with the Connecticut Film Industry Training Program for four years, serving as director of its behind-the-scenes film project, documenting the production process and training environment.

Hawk’s work has received strong recognition from industry professionals. Jan Harlan, executive producer for Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg, has viewed his work and offered high praise. Film scholar Dr. Raymond Foery described Hawk as “a truly imaginative filmmaker with a highly sophisticated sense of cinematic acuity,” noting both his visual composition and philosophical depth.
