The Connecticut Film Industry Training Program was a comprehensive program that equipped students with the specialized skills and intensive hands-on experience they would need to pursue careers in the film industry, In addition, they would have the valuable and unique opportunity to build relationships with accomplished professionals in the field.
Trainees would also learn about union membership, which was required to work on most large productions shooting in the state.
Classes were taught by motion picture professionals who had both significant career experience and were active members of industry trade unions related to the skills they taught.
The training program curriculum was as follows:
Production Overview: a comprehensive production overview and survey of job categories in the feature film and episodic television industry;
Concentrated Training: each student pursued his/her selected area of production or technical concentration during intensive, hands-on training in the classroom, studio and on location;
Pre-Production: the final organization, scheduling and planning, where the script was reviewed to make sure all elements were in place to begin the shoot;
Production: a five-day film shoot of a short narrative script. Led by an experienced DGA director, trainees worked together to produce, manage and coordinate this weeklong effort.
